A New Day

A New Day

Like many of you, I have walked out of Bobby Dodd Stadium wondering what happened? Many times I just couldn't figure out how the better team lost. Trips to Tech have been frustrating, to say the least. However, this is a new day. We must change our mindset.

It wasn't very long ago people were saying the same thing about Maryland. Clemson lost three straight to the Terps from 2000-2002, and some were wondering if the Tigers would ever get over the jump with Maryland.

It wasn't long ago some wondered why we couldn't beat NC State. The Wolfpack beat Clemson four out of six from 1996-2003. Since then the Tigers have won 11 out of 12 in the old Textile Bowl rivalry.

Do you recall hearing about how Clemson stumbles at Duke? Through recruiting, Clemson is now the dominant program between those two schools.

Remember when the house of horrors was Winston-Salem on a Thursday night? Clemson has now won seven straight against the Deacs.

It seems longer than two years ago when Gamecock fans bragged about a five bomb. Remember when we couldn't get over that mental block?

The fact of the matter is Clemson has recruited a different kind of athlete now. Dabo's staff has recruited elite athletes while Paul Johnson hasn't recruited well.

Barring something crazy, Clemson's four and five stars will beat Georgia Tech's two and three stars.

Some will point out Tech's improbable Miracle on Techwood last year when the Jackets returned a blocked field goal on the game's last play to beat FSU. But will anyone point out that was the only ACC win for the Jackets last season?

Clemson's previous losses there have nothing to do with the game this Thursday night.

Paul Johnson's whack-a-doo offense is an equalizer. He can use your speed and aggressiveness against you. And let me be clear, I have a ton of respect for his play-calling. However, Clemson is the better team. The Tigers are better on the lines of scrimmage. Clemson has better skill players. There is a reason Clemson is about a ten-point favorite.

This is a new day in Clemson football. The Tigers have won 20 of their last 21 games. Clemson may play bad and lose but the days of being scared of any opponent are over. Clemson should respect Tech, but expect to win and win by double digits Thursday night. That's what elite level programs do.
