Swinney visits Stoudt, talks offensive coordinator

by - Senior Writer -

Clemson quarterback commitment Cole Stoudt visited with Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and Woody McCorvey – who is helping Swinney with recruiting while Dabo searches for coaching replacements – on Wednesday.

Stoudt said that the pair just wanted to make sure he was ready to enroll in school. He will be in Clemson and start classes when they begin next Tuesday.

“It was a good visit,” Stoudt told TigerNet Wednesday night. “They just wanted to make sure I had everything ready for college, and we went out to lunch. I am excited about getting to Clemson and taking part in spring practice. I think enrolling early can only help me, and with Tony McNeal and Martavis Bryant coming in early, we can get a jump on things.”

Stoudt said they briefly talked about the change at offensive coordinator.

“He told me he was going to be looking for someone who can throw the ball and run the ball,” Stoudt said. “He is looking for someone who has a good scheme on offense and a good track record. We briefly talked about Coach [Chad] Morris, and Coach Swinney told me that he is a pretty good coach. I know that he has one year at Tulsa, but he had a great record in high school in Texas. I am excited whatever direction he takes.”

Stoudt had built a relationship with former offensive coordinator Billy Napier, and a reporter from a Rivals.com site texted him on Sunday to inform him of Napier’s departure.

“I got that text and I was freaking out,” Stoudt said. “I called Coach Napier because I didn’t know what had happened. When I talked to him he told me what was going on. I like Coach Napier and I think he is a really good guy to be around. He will be good wherever he goes. Coach Swinney felt like he had to pick a new guy, and change is hard sometimes. It’s hard to deal with. But I am sure he will make the right choice.”
