Korn feeling 100 percent |
CLEMSON – Willy Korn left Wednesday’s final practice before spring break with a smile on his face, and with good reason. For the first time in months, he feels on top of his game. Korn had shoulder surgery in early December to repair a shoulder injury suffered way back on Oct. 18 in his first collegiate start, against Georgia Tech, and still felt the effects as the Tigers prepared for the Gator Bowl against Nebraska. After the Tech game, he was diagnosed with a bruised humerus bone, but a few weeks later started feeling a sharp pain in the back of his shoulder, which caused him to alter his mechanics. "It was one of the worst athletic experiences I've ever had to go through because I know how I play, and when I'm at my best, I'm pretty good," Korn said. An MRI after the season revealed a frayed labrum, and the surgery soon followed, which revealed more wear and tear than first thought. The surgery was successful, but still affected him during Gator Bowl practice. Three months removed from that surgery, Korn said he is now full speed and getting his mechanics back. “I feel 100 percent,” Korn said Wednesday. “I’ve made every throw I’ve needed to make since I’ve been out there. I’ve been able to throw long balls that I would not have been able to hit before. The competition is fun for me, and seeing myself get better each day.” Korn said that the competition for the starting position is good for all involved. “It makes for a friendly competition,” Korn said. “We have even have Tajh out there, and he is going to meetings with us. It makes all three of us better.” Korn said he also liked the new practice tempo instituted by Swinney. “Our practices are much shorter, and there is a much faster tempo,” he said. “It’s all about getting a lot more repetitions in. One of the key things in to try and make the practice shorter. You get more work done, get on and off the field. You’re not standing around so much. This is fun.”
