CLEMSON BASKETBALL

Blue Devils Pull Away From Tigers

by -

DURHAM, N.C. - Clemson's inability to take care of the basketball kept it from breaking one of its more burdensome streaks Saturday night in Durham.

The 24th-ranked Tigers committed 21 turnovers that led to 37 Duke points, helping the No. 5 Blue Devils roll past Clemson, 93-80, in Durham. It was Duke's (15-1, 3-0 ACC) 22nd straight win in the series.

The Tigers (14-4, 2-2) trailed by 12 in the first half, rallied to within five at the break and briefly took a 55-54 lead in the second half. But with the game tied 58-58 with 11 minutes to go, the Blue Devils responded - at one point taking off on a 23-7 break - to take control of the game.

When Clemson gave up the ball Duke didn't miss many scoring opportunities. The Blue Devils shot 53.4 percent from the field, which helped counter the Tigers' 37-23 rebounding advantage.

DeMarcus Nelson topped Duke with 24 points, while Kyle Singler added 17. Three other Blue Devils also scored in double figures - Gerald Henderson had 16 points, Nolan Smith scored 13 and Jon Scheyer finished with 12.

Clemson didn't help its cause by shooting poorly from the free throw line again, hitting just 10-of-23.

K.C. Rivers led Clemson with 16, eclipsing the 1,000-point plateau for his career in the process.

Demontez Stitt added 15 points for the Tigers, while Trevor Booker had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
