Bowden To Receive Contract Extension |
CLEMSON - Tommy Bowden will receive a contract extension after posting a 9-3 regular season record in 2007. Bowden had a short meeting with athletic director Terry Don Phillips on Monday and was told an extension would be forthcoming. The news puts to end any questions about Bowden's immediate future, and will extend the length of his contract back to at least five years. "It was not the extensive end of the year review, but Dr. Phillips told Coach Bowden that he was pleased with the progress of the program and would offer him a contract extension," said Sports Information Director Tim Bourret. "There will be further meetings to discuss the terms of the extension in the coming days." The Tigers came within one game of playing for the ACC Championship game this season, and closed out the year with another victory over rival South Carolina. If everyone returns next season Bowden's team will have 18 starters back and will likely be the favorites to win the ACC Atlantic Division. Clemson is awaiting word on its bowl destination, which likely will be either the Chik-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta or the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville. In other news from Monday, three Clemson players underwent minor surgical procedures. Quarterback Cullen Harper had his right shoulder scoped to repair a small tear and clean out previous damage. Offensive lineman Chris McDuffie had his elbow scoped, while defensive lineman Jarvis Jenkins had a procedure done on his wrist. All three are expected to be ready for Clemson's bowl game.
