Four Tiger Golfers Earn Over $1 Million on PGA Tour

by -

Four former Clemson golfers earned over $1 million on the PGA

Tour this year, one of just four schools nationally to have four different

players in the million dollar club. The former Tigers who accomplished

the feat were Lucas Glover, Jonathan Byrd, D.J. Trahan and Charles

Warren.

Clemson, Florida, Oklahoma State and UNLV all had four former

players earn over a million dollars in 2006, while Arizona had

three. The ACC had the most players win at least million with

14, followed by the SEC with 12 and the Pac 10 with eight.

Clemson had six former players on the PGA Tour in 2006, as Danny

Ellis and John Engler were also full members. The six former

Tigers on tour earned a combined $6,505,677, a record for former

Clemson players in one PGA Tour season.

Glover was the top Tiger on tour in 2006 with $2,587,982, the

21st best figure on the tour. That was the highest finish on the

PGA Tour money list in history by a former Clemson golfer and the

most money earned by a former Tiger. Glover, who will play in his

second consecutive Masters in 2007 by virtue of his top 40 finish

on the money list was first on the PGA Tour on scoring on par five

holes with a 4.56 average, and he was second on tour in total

birdies with 402.

He had nine top 10 finishes and 17 top 25

finishes in his 31 events. His 70.26 scoring average was 20th

best on tour and he had an all-around statistics ranking of

eighth.

Byrd finished the year with $1,408,418 in earnings, 63rd on the

money list. Byrd now has $6,183,387 in his five years on tour.

He had an injury plagued 2006 season and played in just 20 events,

but he made 13 cuts and had nine top 25 finishes. Byrd had a #5

all-around ranking on tour and was second to Tiger Woods in back

nine scoring average with a 34.79 figure. Byrd was also eighth in

greens hit in regulation (69.61 percent)and is 16th in scoring

average at 70.19.

D.J. Trahan was 89th on the PGA Tour money earned with $1,035,242.

Trahan made 13 of 32 cuts and had four top 25 finishes. Trahan

was the only former Tiger to win a PGA Tour event as he captured

the Southern Farm Bureau Classic and won $540,000 in the process.

With it comes a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.

Charles Warren finished 91st on the PGA Tour money list with

$1,018,841. Warren had a consistent year with 20 made cuts in 27

events, including nine top 25 finishes and two top 10s. Warren

was second on the PGA Tour in total eagles with 16. He was also

10th in greens in regulation out of the fairway and finished 20th

in average drive with 300.1.

Former Tiger Danny Ellis was 166th on the money list with

$382,500, while John Engler was ranked 222 on tour with $72,694.

He made seven cuts in 27 events.
