Clemson Men's Soccer Team Receives NCAA Tournament Bid

CLEMSON, SC--The Clemson Men's Soccer team received a bid to the NCAA Tournament Monday afternoon and received a first round bye in the 48-team field. Clemson will play the winner of the Garnder-Webb/Alabama-Birmingham match on Wednesday, November 15,at 6:00 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.

The Tigers are seeded ninth in the 48-team tournament.

Clemson is led by Dane Richards with 10 goals and eight assists for 28 points. Frederico Moojen has 10 goals and two assists for 22 points. The Tigers have a 12-4-2 record overall this season.

The Tigers' Phil Marfuggi has a 1.18 goals allowed average and has 61 saves this season.

Clemson will be going to the NCAA Tournament for the 26th time in school history. Clemson has been to the NCAA Final eight 12 times and also to seven NCAA Final Fours including last year's appearance.

Alabama-Birmingham (10-6-3) and Gardner-Webb (9-7-3) will play at Birmingham, AL on Saturday, November 11.

Lady Tigers to play host to the first two rounds

CLEMSON, SC--The Clemson women's soccer team has received a NCAA Tournament Bid and will play host to the first two rounds at Historic Riggs Field.

Clemson will play host to Vanderbilt in the first round and UNC Greensboro will play Oklahoma State in the other first round match at Clemson, SC. Both matches will be played on Friday, November 10 at Historic Riggs Field. UNC-Greensboro will play Oklahoma State at 5:00 p.m. and Clemson will play Vanderbilt at 7:30 p.m. The winner of both matches will play on Sunday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m.

Oklahoma State is a fourth-seeded team in this regional and a top-16 seeded team for the entire tournament. Oklahoma State has a 16-3-2 record overall, UNC Greensboro is 13-7-2 overall and Vanderbilt has a 10-4-6 record this season.

Clemson has a 11-7-2 record overall and is led in scoring by Meghan Smith with five goals and five assists for 15 points. Molly Franklin has five goals and four assists for 14 points.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to play host to the NCAA Tournament first two rounds and to these great soccer teams," said Clemson Head Women's Soccer Coach Todd Bramble. "The visiting teams and fans can expect a first rate job in hosting the first two round games at Clemson. We know Vanderbilt is a talented team and a well-coached team, and we are looking forward to the challenge."

Clemson first fielded a women's soccer team in 1994 and has been to the NCAA Tournament every season since 1994 for a total of 13 times. The Lady Tigers have been to the NCAA Final 16 five times (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001). Clemson has also been to the NCAA Final Eight three times (1997, 1999, and 2000).

The Lady Tigers have played host to NCAA Tournament matches in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001.

Clemson vs. Vanderbilt, 7:30 p.m.


Sunday, November 12

Two winners of the first round will play at 2:00 p.m.
