CLEMSON RECRUITING

Jacksonville Corner Commits to the Tigers

by -

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Defensive back Brandon Croley of First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Fla. has committed to the Clemson football program, according to reports in today's Florida Times-Union. Croley (6-foot, 185 pounds), who made 68 tackles as a safety last season, is being moved to cornerback for his senior year. "He'll be an impact player in college, I believe," Bucs coach Marty Lee told the newspaper. "He's not quite as fast as the Carter kid at Mandarin [top cornerback prospect Tony Carter], but he's bigger and very aggressive." Crowley has been clocked at 4.49 in the 40-yard dash. Already eligible under NCAA guidelines, Croley chose Clemson over Auburn, Wake Forest and Central Florida, among others. One reason, he said, is the opportunity to play immediately. "It's a chance to play quickly, and the conference is really improved now," Croley told the paper. I love that I'll get a chance to play against Miami and play for a national title." Another reason for Croley's committment, according to the paper, is the fact that he comes from a military family and there is a possibility his father could be transferred to Virginia. If that happens, playing at Clemson will keep Croley closer to home.
