Greensboro, NC – Senior point guard Edward Scott led a balanced Tiger attack that saw six Tigers in double figures as Clemson routed High Point 91-65 in Greensboro. It was the first time the Tigers had six double figure scorers since November 29, 1994.

The Tigers improved to 2-0 for the season, while High Point fell to 2-1.

In the first half, Sharrod Ford got the Tigers off to a good start as he scored 9 of the Tigers’ first 22 points.

“With Sharrod Ford, we said early in the game, that if we get it in the paint that we have to get a foul or a shot,” said head coach Larry Shyatt. “Sharrod happened to make those early. I’m a little surprised that he finished with just 13 points.”

Ray Henderson’s dunk with 5:40 remaining extended the Clemson lead to 16 at 34-18, and the Tigers led 49-35 at the half. Clemson maintained at least a 17-point advantage throughout the second half, and built its largest lead of 30 points, 90-60 with 1:22 remaining in the game.

“We’re better, and we have a lot of work to do still,” said Shyatt. “ It’s been over a year since we’ve been able to knock someone out like this. We have no home, so why not play neutral games like this. I think the guys liked it.

Ed Scott led the Tigers with fourteen points and ten assists. It was the 6th double-double with assists of his career which is only one behind the all-time Clemson record of seven by Grayson Marshall.

Sharrod Ford added 13 points, while Ray Henderson and Chey Christie had 12 each for Clemson. Olu Babalola had 10.

Tiger rookies Akin Akingbala, Julian Betko, and Shawan Robinson all saw considerable playing time and had 10, 6, and 8 points respectively.

“This is the time of year that some of them have to pick it up and grow up,” said Shyatt. “We couldn’t separate ourselves from Wofford and I couldn’t take a risk playing some of our younger players against Wofford. Each one of them contributed to this victory.”

Guard Walker Holt who is from Greensboro, made his second career start. He had not started since January of 2000 when he started at Maryland.

On Tuesday, December 3, the Tigers will return to Anderson to face Penn State in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. Last year the Tigers trailed the Nittany Lions by 10 at half but rallied to win the game by 13.
