Tigers Fall to Florida State

by -

TALLAHASSEE, FL – A disturbing trend for the Tigers has developed as of late - play good enough to grab lead in the second half but not be able to make the plays late in the game to pull it out.

This time against Florida State the Tigers had a double digit lead in the second half, but a 14-2 run gave the Seminoles (10-7, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) the lead for good with 5 minutes to play and sent the Tigers to their fourth consecutive ACC loss, 68-63.

Tony Stockman led Clemson (11-9, 2-5) with 22 points. Stockman scored 20 points on six 3-pointers in the first 15 minutes of the game but had just two points the rest of the game. Jamar McKnight added 13.

Monte Cummings and Antwuan Dixon led Florida State with 17 and 15 respectively.

Clemson had a 41-37 halftime lead on Ed Scott’s 3-pointer at the buzzer.

With the loss Clemson now has a 1-4 ACC road record although the Tigers have played well in four of the five

games so far. Clemson lost at Duke in December, 96-80. The 16-point margin is the closest Duke has had in an ACC home game this year and the second closest overall (13-point win over San Diego State). Clemson then won at Georgia Tech for just the fourth time in the last 15 years. Last Sunday, Clemson lost at Maryland by nine. It is the closest any team has come to beating Maryland at home this year.

The Tigers will next take on North Carolina in Littlejohn on January 27 at 6:00 PM EST.
