Tigers Bounce Back with Win Over Buccaneers

by -

CLEMSON – Just one week from shooting an anemic 5 for 29 from three in their first ever lost to a Big South opponent against Winthrop, the Tigers found their shooting touch and handed Charleston Southern a 82-45 defeat.

Ed Scott, who leads the ACC in assists, had 14 more which was the most by a Tiger in nine years.

“I thought we passed the ball so well,” said head coach Larry Shyatt. “Ed Scott and Tony Stockman were so unselfish and made us so much better in both halves.”

The Tigers were very balanced in their scoring. Tomas Nagys was the high scorer with 12 points. Chris Hobbs added 10 points, and four other Tigers had 9.

A Sharrod Ford lay-up at the buzzer gave Clemson (8-4) a 41-24 lead at the half. Charleston Southern (3-7) was then out scored 41 to 21 in the second half which included a 19-0 run over the last nine minutes.

“(Olu) Babalola, (Sharrod) Ford, and (Jemere) Hendrix were really delights today,” said Shyatt. “They played with high energy.”

Clemson had especially struggled at home with the 3-point shot, making just 20.5 percent of its three point attempts this year. Against the Buccaneers, however, the Tigers shot 9 for 15 (60%) from three. Clemson’s Tony Stockman rebounded with 3 for 5 shooting from three after going 0 for 9 against Winthrop last week.

Guard Gene Granger led Charleston Southern in scoring with 11 points in the first half but did not score in the second.

Clemson now leads the all-time series 15-0, and all 15 games have been decided by 10 points or more.

The Tigers will next travel to face Hartford on December 28 at 9:00 PM EST.
