The three-star wide receiver out of Marietta (GA) Lassiter committed to Clemson in July, but received an offer from his father Lee Jenkins’ alma mater Monday.

Jenkins told TigerNet Thursday evening that receiving an offer from the Volunteers was exciting, because he attended many games in Knoxville as a child.

“It was pretty cool because as a kid my dad used to take me to games at Tennessee,” Jenkins said. “It was cool to get the offer and have him call me.”

Jones plans to install an up-tempo offense and Jenkins said he enjoyed talking to Jones about his plans to turn the Tennessee program around.

“The conversation went well,” he said. “He was just explaining to me about Tennessee’s program and how he plans to get it turned around. He was telling me about the offense and how it will be an up-tempo offense. He was selling me on multiple points about the school.”

“I didn’t think about the offer anymore than it would if he wasn’t talking to them [other school],” he said. “It’s part of a business. You can’t go to a school because of a coach because it is part of the business.”

Jenkins said he wants to sit down with his family before making any decisions regarding the offer from the Vols.

“I haven’t really had a chance to think about it,” he said. “I’ve told my dad and my family, but I haven’t really had a chance to really sit down and talk with them yet. We are going to sit down some time in the near future and assess the situation and go from there.”

Jenkins only has one official visit scheduled and that is to Clemson on January 11, but he said that if he decides visit Tennessee he won’t be giving the media a heads-up.

“Out of respect for Clemson, I’m not going to tell the media if and when I take a visit to Tennessee,” he said. “That’s just out of respect for Coach Swinney and Clemson.”
