Sumner-Gardner attended Dabo Swinney football camp in June 2012. He was offered and committed on June 14, 2012. He is also a huge fan of Clemson and fellow Tiger, Brian Dawkins.

He has a chance to be rated one of the top safeties in the class of 2014. He really stood out at the 2012 Dabo Swinney football camp.
