Leggett, who called Lockwood one of his closest friends at the school, made it a point to express to Swinney the significance of number. “I just had to have that number, that’s the one thing I asked for,” Leggett said. “They asked me the significance behind it. After I told him, he said, ‘That’s fine. When you get here, that’s your number.’
Leggett asked the Tigers coach if he could be assured of wearing No. 10 in college, the same jersey number worn by Ian Lockwood. Lockwood, a one-time receiver at Navarre himself, died in January of 2011 after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
