High School Head Coaches Weigh in on Clemson’s Signees

“Jaron’s two major strengths are his athleticism and his work ethic. He has done a great job of using his athleticism to make plays. What separates him is that he is willing to put in the work to polish the other aspects of his game. He doesn’t just totally rely on his athleticism. He wants to be a well-rounded player that can hurt you in different ways.” – Chattahoochee Head Coach Kacey Martin

“Adonis is one of the more explosive point guards in his class. What separates him is his athletic ability, and that he can finish well at the rim. We’re working on expanding his ability to include all five guys on the floor. He’s excited because he gets the chance to play with higher-level players at prep school. He is taking a lot of pride trying to figure everything out.

“He definitely has a college-ready body. He is physically strong, which allows him to defend at a high level. When you can do those things and adjust to the speed of the college game, you can play right away. For Coach Brownell to grab a player recruited to schools from the Big East, Big Ten, Pac 12, and the SEC, it’s a good get for Clemson. It shows that top-tier players are believing in what he and his staff are selling.” – Notre Dame Prep Head Coach Ryan Hurd

“He is 6-11 and 230 or 240 pounds, and has a great body. He is really chiseled, and he runs the floor really well. He reminds me of (former player and current NBA standout) Samuel Dalembert, but he is stronger than Sam was in high school. He takes up space, is a shot-blocker and a rebounder.

“He was a soccer player, so he has good speed and feet. He has been playing basketball for just two years, and he has continued to get better every year. In college, I think he will contribute early because he can block shots and rebound so well.

“I know he thought the campus was beautiful and the people were very friendly. He was also very impressed with the coaching staff, and he thought Coach Brownell was sincere and honest and didn’t sugarcoat things like they usually do on recruiting trips. I think he appreciated that.” – Montverde Head Coach Kevin Boyle

“I have been the head basketball coach at Irmo High School for 30 years. During that time, I have had the opportunity to work with many outstanding young men. Without hesitation, I can say that Jordan is one of the finest young men with whom I have ever had the pleasure to be associated. His commitment to excellence is exhibited in his work ethic in the classroom and on the basketball court.

“Jordan has an unbelievable knowledge, understanding and feel for game. He is an excellent ball-handler, great passer, and he can score from anywhere on the floor. I have never coached a player that utilizes the mid-range game as effectively as Jordan. He is an explosive leaper and just plain exciting player to watch. Most importantly, Jordan will bring an incredible work ethic and passion with him to Clemson.” – Irmo Head Coach Tim Whipple

Josh Smith Josh Smith

"Josh is a true back to the basket post player with the ability to eventually step away from the basket to the 10-15 feet range. He has soft hands, is very skilled around the basket and does a nice job of rebounding outside his area.

"He will be a night in and night out double-double guy for us and will be a load on the block for opposing teams to handle this year. Coach Brownell is getting a really nice piece to the puzzle that he is putting together at Clemson. Josh has a tremendous upside, in terms of basketball growth, and will fit in nicely to their system." – Olympic Head Coach Ty Baumgardner
