Chronic knee issues forces LB to quit football

told head coach Dabo Swinney on Monday that the pain in his left knee was too much to continue to play football.

Parker has dealt with chronic knee problems since high school. He will become a student-coach and remain on scholarship.

2011: Had 10 tackles in 33 snaps over 14 games...had seven special teams tackles...had three tackles in 12 snaps against Wofford on Sept. 10...had two special teams tackles against Boston College on Oct. 8...had two special teams tackles at Maryland on Oct. 15...had one tackle in seven snaps against North Carolina on Oct. 22...had one tackle in four snaps against #3 Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship game on Dec. 3.

2010: Had nine tackles in 57 snaps over 10 games...had two tackles in nine snaps against North Texas...had a team-high six tackles in 18 snaps against Presbyterian College...played 17 snaps at Wake Forest...played 12 snaps against Maryland.

Before Clemson: Rated as the #13 player in South Carolina by Rivals.com...#13 middle linebacker in the nation by Scout.com...#7 inside linebacker in the nation by ESPN.com...#11 player in South Carolina by SuperPrep...first-team all-state by The State and High School Sports Report...had 140 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and seven sacks...played in the Shrine Bowl and the Offense-Defense All American Bowl...PrepStar preseason All-American...#12 player in South Carolina by Charlotte Observer...had 97 tackles as a junior and seven interceptions as a sophomore...coached by former Clemson tight end Mark Clifford at Beaufort High School...recruited by Dan Brooks...chose Clemson over Louisiana State and South Carolina.

When a player is medically unable to play, Iptay/Dabo can choose to honor the scholarship, but he isnt on the roster for the 85 limit purposes.***
