Smith was one of five first-team selections from District IV, which covers Division I institutions from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Smith was joined on the Capital One Academic All-District Team by Brad Loesing of Wofford, Sam McLaurin of Coastal Carolina, Jay Reynolds of Presbyterian College, and Patric Young of Florida. Smith is now the only three-time all-district selection from the Clemson men’s basketball program. Former Tiger center Tom Wideman was a two-time winner (1998, 1999).
A first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District choice each of his last three seasons, Smith is now eligible for Academic All-America honors. He leads the Tigers with 4.0 assists per game and is second in rebounding with 5.4 per game. He is the only player in the ACC averaging at least 10 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.
The Alpharetta, GA native earned his undergraduate degree in December and was presented his diploma prior to the Jan. 28 home game against Wake Forest. He graduated cum laude in marketing, while becoming the first Tiger men’s basketball player (along with fellow graduate Bryan Narcisse
