Clemson ranked best values in colleges by Kiplinger |
CLEMSON — Kiplinger magazine has rated Clemson University among the best values in public higher education in its ranking of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" released Tuesday.
Clemson's ranking — 34th for in-state students and 36th for out-of-state students — was based on a variety of factors that matched quality of education with cost. The university moved up from a ranking of 41st and 46th, respectively, last year. “We are pleased that Kiplinger continues to recognize the high value of a Clemson education, particularly in this economic climate where cost effectiveness and value are so scrutinized,” said Clemson president James F. Barker. "Each year, we continue to see record-breaking numbers of admissions applications and this year is no exception,” said Clemson admissions director Robert Barkley. “It’s clear that students and families also recognize the value of a Clemson education.” Using data from more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities, Kiplinger assesses quality and affordability according to a number of measurable standards. This year, Kiplinger revamped the rankings to give more weight to academic value, such as the percentage of students who return for their sophomore years and the four-year graduation rate. Cost criteria include low sticker prices, abundant financial aid and low average debt at graduation. Tuition for in-state students at Clemson is $6,334 per semester and $14,413 for out-of-state students, excluding room and board, lab fees, library fees and differential costs related to majors.
