Deantwan Whitehead has retracted his verbal commitment to Clemson. Whitehead, also known as Peanut, left Coach Swinney a message earlier this week. This does not come as a surprise, as we knew it would be a battle for Clemson to hold onto Whitehead.

Whitehead said last week, "I am still going to visit Auburn and Georgia. I will probably take some official visits after my season."

Clemson is still the leader Whitehead, as Marion Hobby and Dabo Swinney will turn up the heat once again. The Tigers now have five verbal commitments for the class of 2006.

The staff has started off extremely well in state landing the state's top defensive end (Ricky Sapp), defensive back (Byron Maxwell), and linebacker (Julius Wilkerson).

We still believe Clemson has a very good chance to sign Whitehead in the end. Whitehead has simply decided to look more closely at his options, but according to one source, Clemson is still his leader.
