Greenville's David Smith committed to Clemson earlier tonight. Tiger Source caught up with Smith Monday evening.

"Earlier today, I decided I was going to Clemson. I went to my coach, and asked him how would be the best way for me to commit to Clemson. He told me he could help me right then. He called and left Coach (David) Blackwell a message. I finally was able to get in touch with Coach Blackwell tonight, and let him know."

Smith said he was also able to speak with Coach Bowden tonight as well. Smith also said he has no problem with the early decision.

"There is no other place I’d rather be than Clemson. Coach Bowden was was extremely happy. He said recruiting was going very well this year."

Smith informed his family of his final decision this afternoon.

"As soon as I got of school, I called my Dad and told him that I was going to commit tonight. I had told my Dad before that Clemson was where I wanted to be. I had prayed about it and decided to go ahead and make my decision. It has always been my childhood dream to play at Clemson."

Will Smith now become a recruiter for Clemson?

"I will try my best to. I will do anything to help Clemson."

The interest did have a chance to pick up as heavily for Smith, as he knew very early Clemson was his ultimate destination.

"I received about four or five letters today. Maryland, Kentucky, and Furman were some of the ones I received."

Smith hopes to attend Clemson's Junior Day and the Nike camp.

"I am going to make my best effort to be there for the junior day and the Nike Camp. It is very important to be there."

One ACC coach told us that Smith is a better football player at this point than former Greenville star Corey Lambert.
