Elite TE Jay Rome committed to Georgia live on ESPNU on Thursday. Rome chose Georgia over Alabama, Tennessee, and Clemson.
“I’m going to stay in state and be a Georgia Bulldog,” said Rome said on ESPNU. “Georgia is a great school and has a great history. People call it tight end U. At the end of the day, I wanted to stay home, stay in-state and get all the in-state love.” Rome then called on Carver-Columbus running back Isaiah Crowell and Thomas County Central defensive end Ray Drew to join him as a Bulldog. Although Clemson has put together an impressive recruiting class, Rome’s commitment to Georgia has to be a disappointment. Rome’s father, Stan, was a standout at Clemson and the Tigers were unable to get Rome on campus for an official visit. However, the Tigers appear to be in good shape at tight end with the commitment of Eric Maclain. The Tigers also have tight ends Dwayne Allen, Brandon Ford, Sam Cooper, and Darrell Smith on scholarship.
