4-star 2016 cornerback Trayvon Mullen committed to Clemson on ESPNU on National Signing Day.
Mullen's picked Clemson over Florida State, TCU, LSU and Louisville and shocked most of the national media pundits that had him going to LSU. He is the highest-ranked defensive back commit for Clemson since 2013 with former shutdown cornerback Mackensie Alexander. Mullen was one of the most critical commits for Clemson's 2016 recruiting class. Clemson offered Mullen on 5/13/14, and he took an official visit to Clemson in late January. He is ranked as the #17 overall player in ESPN's 300 and the number two ranked cornerback in the nation. Swinney said on ESPN shortly after the commitment about Mullen. "It's hard to find guys with the coverage skills and length that he has. Big, big get for us." Swinney said that they were taking no defensive back for the class before a few of the defensive backs declared early for the NFL draft.
