Thomas Hunter decided to return for his senior season, and it helped ease the transition of the tight end at Clemson, but the Tigers will need to land 2-3 tight ends in this class to build depth.
No longer is there a token approach to using the tight end at Clemson. Offensive coordinator Rob Spence is serious about getting the tight end involved in his offense. A player that Clemson is competing for with several schools is Rob Gronkowski. Gronkowski has offers from over 15 schools. Arizona, Maryland, Clemson, Florida, Notre Dame, Penn State, among others have offered the New York native. Gronkowski says he does not have a favorite, but Arizona and Maryland stand out. "My two brothers are at Maryland. It would be easy on my family, if I went there. My family wants me to do what was best for me. Maryland was the best situation for my brothers, but my parents have given me the freedom to look at other schools." The Arizona Wildcats are a program in a state of rebuilding, but Gronkowski says good things are on the horizon for hte Wildcats. "Coach (Mike) Stoops has put together a really good coaching staff. The staff out there is really close, and they work really hard. The program has fallen a little bit, but they are really close to getting back into the top-25." What does Gronkowski know about Clemson? "I get a lot of text messages from Clemson. I have never been down there, but I want to go. I have just seen pictures on the internet, but I would like to see the campus in person. Clemson needs tight ends, so I would have an opportunity to come in and play early." We will continue to track Gronkowski, as a summer trip down from New York appears likely.
