TigerNet has learned that K Alex Spence from West Florence, SC has committed to Clemson Friday afternoon.

Spence was offered this afternoon and immediately accepted joining the Clemson program. He is the top kicker in South Carolina for the 2014 class.

While attending the Dabo Swinney football camp the last three days, he came away very impressive in the kicking drills. During his junior year, he was 11 for 13 on field goals and had nearly a 40 yard per punt average.

Since Clemson has a lack of kicker depth on the roster, he will get the chance to compete for the starting job on kickoffs, field goals and punts. The in-state kicker becomes the 11th member of the 2014 class for Clemson.

The following bio is from Chris Sailer's kicking camp website:

Alex is an outstanding kicker. He hits a nice consistent ball off the ground. Field goals are solid. Kickoffs are strong and show great college potential. Also a very good punter. Shows potential in all 3 phases (FG, KO, and P). Kicks well under pressure. Has improved a great deal from camp to camp. He will only continue to improve his game in time. Fine young man with a great attitude and work ethic. Should have a great spring and summer. Excellent college prospect.
