One of Clemson’s remaining targets for the 2015 recruiting cycle got the good news Wednesday that gets him a little closer to signing with the school of his choice.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has been personally recruiting Columbia (SC) A.C. Flora athlete Denzel Johnson since Swinney saw Johnson play against Daniel in last year’s playoffs. However, Denzel has been waiting to see if he has the grades – and test scores – to finalize before he knows if he will qualify and he got the good news about his test scores Wednesday. “I got my ACT score today,” Johnson told TigerNet. “Now I just have to wait for May 19th for my grades to finalize. If everything matches up I will be cleared.” Johnson said he still has to take his final exams next week and they will play a role in his final grades, but he feels confident he will qualify. He also said he hears from Clemson’s coaching staff and expects to talk to them tonight and that Clemson is still one of his top choices. “Definitely. I talked to Clemson about a week and a half ago,” Johnson said. “Hopefully I'll get to talk to them today. It's still a decision I have to make but I'm strongly considering Clemson.” Johnson had 69 catches for 910 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. He also played safety and had 60 tackles with two interceptions and eight passes broken up.
