Shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday, Clemson verbal commitment Crezdon Butler was all smiles in the lobby of the Shriners' Hospital. Just one day ago, Butler won the North Carolina State Championship, and now he gets a chance to play in the Shrine Bowl.

"It was just a dream come true. My senior bowl making it to the Shrine Bowl, going undefeated and winning the state championship. After our halftime, our defense turned it up, and we won 13-10. I got most valuable player in the game. My last pass was a game-winning touchdown pass."

"I think I did pretty good moving from tailback to quarterback. I learned a lot from our senior quarterback last year. I just worked really hard and got the job done."

Butler will now have a week to learn a new position. For the North Carolina squad, he will be playing wide receiver.

"I haven't played wide receiver in high school, but I did play wide receiver at the Shrine Bowl combine."

Clemson has other plans for Butler when he arrives on campus.

"Mostly just defense at cornerback. They want to use me in a lot of nickel situations, then in my sophomore year hopefully I will be starting."

Butler had a chance on Sunday to reflect on his early verbal commitment to Clemson.

"I just wanted all the hype to be over with. I committed to Clemson, because I knew the problems they were having at corner, and I would have a chance to come in and start early. I loved the atmosphere down there. I went down for four or five games. I chose Clemson over Virginia Tech, because of playing time and being closer to home."

We will continue to scout Butler all week at the Shrine Bowl.
