3-star 2017 outside linebacker Jaylen Griffin from Rome, Georgia took an unofficial visit to Clemson on Saturday as part of a memorable birthday weekend.

Griffin was accompanied by four of his Rome high school teammates and his coach John Reid.

TigerNet spoke with Griffin on Monday, and he had many positive things to say about his experience at Clemson.

"The visit was great," Griffin said. "Clemson has always been one of my favorite schools. I've been to a couple of youth camps, so I'm familiar with a few of their athletic buildings. It goes without saying that Clemson has an excellent football program."

Brent Venables was able to spend time with Griffin, and the recruit approved of what he heard from the defensive coordinator.

"Coach Venables was nice," Griffin said. "We talked and he said he likes my film. He also told me I was on his short list of linebackers, and to be patient. He likes that I can play inside and outside. I left feeling great. I also left feeling noticed. We'll definitely keep in touch with each other."

Clemson has not offered yet, but he currently has four football scholarship offers including Charlotte, East Carolina, Illinois and Western Kentucky.

In 2015, Griffin had 89 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, a forced fumble, two blocks and a safety and was named to the All-Region and All-Area teams.

Griffin had a great time watching practice and putting on the Clemson jersey and the gear in the college locker room.

"Loved the campus," Griffin said. "Love their uniform swag as well. The photo shoot with the uniforms was great, makes you feel like a super star. It was exciting and informative to watch them practice and just get the feel of how their practices are ran. Overall I really enjoyed my trip. It was a great way to spend my birthday."

Griffin plans to visit for Clemson's upcoming spring game and also attend a session at the 2016 Dabo Swinney Football camp.
