This is an overview from a conversation from Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer and Clowney yesterday after his ESPNU interview.
4:15 p.m.: Clowney talks with me and another reporter off-camera. He says his visit with Clemson went so well last weekend that the Tigers are now a legitimate threat to sign him, which makes his recruitment a three-horse race between Clemson and previous favorites South Carolina and Alabama. Clowney also confirms he plans to attend three years at whatever school he goes to and then declare early for the NFL. He tells us the family's cell phone bill has jumped to about $400 to $500 a month, which is one reason why his mother is ready for the recruiting process to be over. Clowney, though, isn't ready. He plans to announce on his birthday - Feb. 14. He was on the cover of ESPN The Magazine. He might even take a last-minute visit to Florida State this weekend. He's enjoying this.
