proved why he is one of the nation's most sought-after prospects against Chesnee on Friday night. The 6-foot-4, 275-pounder thwarted a Chesnee comeback attempt with a late fourth-quarter interception to eventually lead the Trojans to a 35-14 road win. Chesnee trailed 21-14 with 3 minutes remaining in regulation when the costly mistake occurred. "Me being a leader is a role I have to play," Watkins said. "I was just there to make a play, and it was something I had to do." Watkins, who has offers from 18 major college programs, also recorded a pair of sacks, forced fumble and a pass break up in addition to the interception. He also had one reception for 10 yards that resulted in a first down in the second quarter. Following Watkins' interception, the Trojans slammed the door with a four-play, 25-yard drive, capped by a 5-yard touchdown run from quarterback Tyreece Gossett for a 28-14 lead. "The momentum was shifting, and Carlos came up with a big play," Chase coach Daniel Bailey said. As a junior, Watkins had 50 tackles, 29 tackles for loss and 14 sacks. In 10 games on offense, he caught 11 passes for 237 yards while rushing for 270 yards on 65 carries. He played several positions including RB, WR, TE, DL and LB. As a sophomore, he started at offensive tackle. He averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds while playing center for his high school.
