Watson takes the high road in response to Spurrier comments |
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier made national news with an impromptu press conference Wednesday where he went over a variety of topics including a comment made by Clemson quarterback
Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson "We're fired up and we're gonna be fired up when that team from Clemson comes in last game of the season," Spurrier said on Wednesday. "Their quarterback's already challenged our guys. He says we can't beat him ever. So, we're looking forward to that challenge also. Maybe this rivalry will get back a little bit like it was several years ago." On Thursday, Watson did not take the bait when asked by Fox Carolina's Aaron Cheslock if he had a response to Steve Spurrier comments. "Not at all. Right now I am just worried about Clemson," Watson told Fox Carolina. "If that's something he wants to say, that's on them. But right now I am just worried about Clemson. That's just something I said in high school. I don't want to tell anyone that I am going to lose this game and not win it. It's just something I said in high school. I guess it is what it is." In his rookie campaign, Watson completed 67.9% of his passes for 1,466 yards (10.7 per attempt) with 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions for a tremendous quarterback rating of 188.57. He also had five scores rushing. Another superlative is that he had a nation's best 10.7 yards per pass attempt.
