Watson ranked #1 ESPN ACC Heisman Candidate |
Clemson sophomore quarterback
Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson "The preseason ACC player of the year showed what he was capable of in limited action last season, completing better than 67 percent of his passes for 1,466 yards with 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions, while rushing for 200 yards and another five scores," ESPN said. "Of course, Watson played in only eight games in 2014 as a true freshman, and started in only five, so his recovery from ACL surgery — which followed shoulder and hand injuries, respectively — will be a huge storyline. Playing behind four new starters on the offensive line won't make things easy, either." ESPN Expert's Poll also released its Heisman Watch on Thursday and Watson received six votes for 6th place overall. RB Ezekiel Elliot, QB Trevone Boykin, QB Cody Kessler, RB Nick Chubb and QB J.T. Barrett all received more votes. In his rookie campaign, Watson completed 67.9% of his passes for 1,466 yards (10.7 per attempt) with 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions for a tremendous quarterback rating of 188.57. Another superlative is that he had a nation's best 10.7 yards per pass attempt.
