Watson in Top 5 of SI.com's Heisman Watch

Clemson sophomore quarterback Deshaun Watson jumped into the Top 5 of SI.com's Heisman Watch after a 58-0 blowout win over Miami in Week 8 action of the college football season.

SI.com's Heisman Watch list includes RB Leonard Fournette (#1), QB Trevone Boykin (#2), RB Derrick Henry (#3), QB Deshaun Watson (#4) and RB Christian McCaffrey (#5).

"Watson will be interesting to watch in the Heisman race for a couple of reasons," SI.com stated. "He won’t put up the numbers that, say, Trevone Boykin will at TCU, but Watson is still the ACC leader in completion percentage (69.3) and third in total offense per play (7.45). Plus, few teams in college football look more dangerous than Clemson right now. That’s why winning the Heisman may not require Watson to record insane statistics. He might simply need to maintain the status quo."

Watson has passed for 131 for 189 for 1553 yards and 15 touchdowns and seven touchdowns this season with a quarterback rating of 157.1 and an adjusted QBR of 86.5.

The Gainesville, GA native is 11-1 in his first 12 career games and climbed into 7th place in career touchdown passes (28) past former Clemson quarterback Mike Eppley.

In his rookie campaign, Watson completed 67.9% of his passes for 1,466 yards (10.7 per attempt) with 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions for an excellent quarterback rating of 188.57. He also had five scores rushing. Another superlative is that he had a nation's best 10.7 yards per pass attempt.
