Watson has $10 million insurance policy for career-ending injury |
Clemson junior quarterback
Deshaun Watson is one of the top NFL prospects for the upcoming 2017 NFL draft.
It's a tricky situation when a potential top draft pick like Watson has to play a full college football season with significant money at stake. However, Watson shared in an interview with Bleacher Report that he has a $5 million insurance policy against a career-ending injury and a $5 million policy if he has a loss of draft value due to injury. "I got an insurance policy this offseason," Watson said. "It pays $10 million for a debilitating, career-ending injury and $5 million for loss of value in the draft. Those insurance companies are smart; they do their homework, right? They're not giving that policy to someone who doesn't project to throw the football in the NFL." Watson completed 333 of 491 passes for 4,104 yards and 35 touchdowns and also had 207 rushes for 1105 yards and 12 scores this past season. His 5,209 yards of total offense and his 47 total touchdowns were ACC records, and his rushing total was a record for a Clemson quarterback. His 487 yards of total offense set a record for a National Championship game, and he is the first quarterback in FBS history to have at least 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season.
