Letter from his GoFundMe page:

Dear Friends,

As a cherished part of our lives through the years, you have been there to see Marcus grow from a tiny, struggling baby to be the strong young man we are all so proud of today. You've also known that for the last several years, Marcus has asked repeatedly(and knowing Marcus you understand what we mean by the word "repeatedly") when his time will come to follow Monique and Michael to college. Well after countless prayers and even sometimes tears, that day has finally come. Marcus has been accepted into a very competitive program at Clemson University where he will learn various skills and make connections that will help him to live more independently and give him the confidence (yes, Marcus needs more confidence!) to be successful in a world that does not always give him the chances he deserves. Unfortunately, as you well know, programs of this type are very expensive especially considering the special housing and safety need of students like Marcus. For Marcus to go to Clemson, our family will have to make many sacrifices and work hard at various fund raising. And we will have to put aside our pride and ask our most loved friends and family for their support during Marcus' greatest opportunity. Any donation, great or small, as long as it comes from your heart will be more appreciated than you could ever know. Your love and friendship is our greatest gift. And as always, your prayers for Marcus and our family are needed most of all. The transition for us all will be monumental, but with you at our side we can do this thing!

With love and appreciation,

Terry, April, Monique, Michael, and especially Marcus
