WATCH: Clemson's Give Day is April 6

by -

CLEMSON — During a 24-hour stretch next week, Clemson students, employees, alumni and supporters will have a chance to make a positive impact on the university.

The second Give Day will be Thursday, April 6. It is a one-day campaign for gifts to support scholarships, fellowships and professorships and facility renovation and construction. Fundraisers will be active on campus, making telephone calls and on social media, hoping to top last year’s inaugural Give Day total of more than $900,000.

“Last year, the Clemson family came together to raise over $900,000 to support student, faculty, staff and facility funding priorities in the first-ever Give Day,” said Brian O’Rourke, vice president for Development and Alumni Relations. “This year, we have the opportunity to make an even bigger impact in just 24 hours and to create a lasting legacy for our current and future students.”

Give Day also is a way to promote the importance of private giving and the power of individual donors. In 2016, more than 3,300 individual donors gave gifts.

“Many of Clemson buildings, facilities and structures that faculty and staff use today exist because of gifts to Clemson,” said Michele Cauley, associate vice president of marketing, communications and events in Development and Alumni Relations. “Private gifts to the university are crucial to help achieve the goals of our ClemsonForward plan, to attract the best and brightest students, to offer updated workspaces for faculty and staff and to keep the university competitive.”

There is no minimum gift amount and all contributions are tax-deductible. To make a gift, visit www.clemson.edu/giveday, or contact the Annual Giving office at 864-656-5896 or CUFUND-l@clemson.edu. Share Give Day news on social media using the hashag #ClemsonGiveDay.

New this year, track real-time cumulative total of gifts received and see special donor challenges throughout the day at www.clemson.edu/giveday.

“Clemson is so fortunate to have the most loyal, generous and competitive alumni and fan base in the country,” O’Rourke said. “We invite everyone to wear orange, make your gift and use #ClemsonGiveDay on April 6!”
