Vic Beasley gets big award

by -

Clemson, SC—Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley has been named Chuck Bednarik National Defensive Player of the Week. The honor is named each week by the Maxwell Football Club of Philadelphia.

Beasley had three sacks for the Tigers for 20 yards in the 26-12 Clemson win at NC State on September 19. It tied his career high for sacks in a game. Beasley had five total tackles and two passes broken up as he helped limit NC State to 14 points, the second fewest points for the Wolfpack in their last 12 games.

One of Beasley’s sacks was a key play in the contest. With Clemson leading 13-7 with seven minutes left in the third period, Beasley sacked NC State quarterback Pete Thomas on a third down play in Clemson territory. He forced a fumble on the play that was recovered by teammate Spencer Shuey. The Tigers then drove for a touchdown to take a 20-7 lead.

Beasley, a junior, now has five sacks for the year in three games. He ranks second in the nation and first in the ACC in sacks per game. He now has 13 career sacks and six have come against NC State.

Clemson will play host to Wake Forest this Saturday at 3:30 pM in a game that will be televised by ESPNU.
