Former Vanderbilt freshman point guard Shelton Mitchell has committed to Clemson on Sunday according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello.
The former 4-star point guard and his family visited Clemson on Saturday night and the familiarity with the coaching staff back in high school recruiting appears to have been a big factor in his commitment.
Other schools that Mitchell considered were East Carolina, Charlotte, California, Purdue and N.C. State.
Mitchell will have three years left to play at Clemson after sitting out a required season and will join the rotation for the 2016-2017 season.
This is a upgrade talent-wise for the roster for the 2016-2017 season. He averaged 4.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game (11 starts) in 20 minutes last year at Vanderbilt.
Mitchell originally signed with Wake Forest out of high school but received a release after the departure of head coach Jeff Bzdelik. In high school, he was the 2A player of the year and averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
