Three OU play-makers should be ready vs Clemson

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops said on Wednesday that star quarterback Trevor Knight (neck), freshman All-American running back Samaje Perine (ankle) and go to receiver Sterling Shepard (groin) should all be back healthy against Clemson for the 2014 Russell Athletic Bowl.

“It’s a real positive, obviously, getting Trevor [Knight] back. He’s practiced well, he’s looked good after practice and felt good after practice, so that’s moving in a positive direction," Stoops told Dallasnews.com.

For the season, Knight completed 162 for 279 for 2197 yards and 14 touchdowns and six interceptions and five additional rushing scores. However, he has missed the Texas Tech, Kansas and Oklahoma State game with a neck injury.

Stoops was also very optimistic on starting running back Samaje Perine's availability for the bowl game.

“He’s expected to be back…He’s improving, he hasn’t practiced yet. Talking to him, he feels like he’s making really good progress," Stoops told Dallasnews.com.

Perine has rushed for 1,579 yards and 21 touchdowns as a freshman. He leads all freshman in the nation with 131.6 yards per game and is ninth overall (regardless of year) in rushing.

"The one that will be a question mark is just how Sterling [Shepard] has reacted all year. He feels significantly different and better than he has. We won’t practice him until we get to the bowl site as well."

For the season, Shepard has 50 catches for 957 yards and five touchdowns but has missed four games with the groin injury.
