Former Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd was charged with assault stemming from a nightclub incident in July as Boyd turned himself into authorities after being contacted by police on Tuesday morning.

The Tajh Boyd Foundation released a statement on Wednesday morning:

"Tajh Boyd would love to be able to comment on the details of allegations arising from the incident reported yesterday but due to ongoing legal ramifications he is not able to do so at this time. Tajh's first concern in this matter was the impact that this situation may have on the children he has had the opportunity to mentor along with those that simply look up to him for his athletic achievements or community involvement. He ask that everyone be patient and let this situation unfold rather than rushing to judgement. Tajh will not let this stop the momentum that he and his foundation have gained in the effort to embrace this community and make a difference in the lives of our states youth. He looks forward to growing from this and embraces it as an opportunity to educate. He is very encouraged by the outpouring of support he has received from friends, family, fans and strangers and wants to thank you all!"

Tajh Boyd gave out an estimated 500 school backpacks to at-risk children with his foundation at Woodland Elementary School in Greer and Blue Ridge Elementary in Seneca last month.

The Tajh Boyd Foundation's mission statement is "Empowering and enabling youth in SC to overcome adversity through education, mentoring and character development for the long term betterment of their lives and our communities."
