Like everyone else in this rural city, C.J. Spiller has family members and friends who work for the Florida Department of Corrections.

The Reception and Medical Center (RMC) state prison is the biggest employer in town. But Union Correctional Institution (UCI) is less than 10 miles down the road and Florida State Prison (FSP) is just across the New River Bridge. It’s only a short drive to Columbia Correctional to the north or Baker Correctional to the east.

For Spiller, the third-year Buffalo Bills running back who was back in his hometown for a youth football camp, the community’s most notable landmarks served as a daily reminder: Stay out of trouble or you’ll end up in one of these places.
