Spiller: I'd be a "fool" not to have considered the Saints

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson running back CJ Spiller has agreed to a four-year contract with the New Orleans Saints on Friday worth $18 million with 9 million guaranteed.

Spiller had a conference call with the local media over the weekend and talked about how his is looking forward to playing for the Saints and their rabid fan base - Who Dat Nation.

"I’ve been following this offense very closely," Spiller said. "We tried to do some similar stuff at Buffalo early on in my career. The way that they use their running backs in general is very intriguing. If you were in my position, you would be a fool not to visit or at least see how they could utilize your skillset, especially my type of skillset. I am looking forward to it, whatever my role may be. Anything that I can do to try and help the offense be successful and help the team be successful that is what you have to do. You have to put your ego aside because at the end of the day there’s only one thing that matters and that’s getting to the playoffs and trying and win a Super Bowl."

Spiller rushed 668 times for 3,321 yards (5,550 all-purpose yards) and 12 touchdowns during his time with the Bills. During an injury-shortened 2014 season (broken collarbone), Spiller had 78 rushes for 300 yards and also had 19 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown. His best season came in 2012 when he had an impressive 1,703 total yards and a career-high 8 touchdowns. He was drafted by the Bills with the 9th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

The Saint's play their home games in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and Spiller might be a natural in the dome. He has an impressive career 5.9 yards per rush indoors compared to only 4.2 yards per rush on grass.
