Scott on QB rotation against Wofford

Bryant has the physical skills to be a solid performer

Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott talked to the media after Thursday's practice and was asked about several freshmen that might contribute including the play of Kelly Bryant and Deon Cain.

"We have talked about we would like to play him," Scott said. "But Nick [Schuessler] has done really well. We want to get Nick some experience too. So we will just have to see how the games go. If we are in position where Nick can play some and Kelly can play some that would be a great situation, but obviously you got to get in the game and see how it goes. I know how it was in 2011 [against Wofford] that wasn't any room for anybody to play other than Tajh [Boyd]. We were holding on to our hats right there to very end. Kelly has had a really good fall camp. We've seen a lot of improvement for him. If we do decide that he is going to play this year, we would love to see him have an opportunity to get some experience along with Nick."

Scott discussed the play of Bryant through fall camp including the good and the bad.

"I think he has responded the right way," Swinney said. "He obviously has not been perfect. It's a learning experience. He goes out and has some really good plays and then he has some really bad plays. But I think he has responded. All we can go off of is practice and are we getting progress or are we staying the same? I would definitely say with Kelly we have seen progress. He adds another dimension as well. When he gets in he is a bigger guy that can run and do some other things. As he continues to progress and gets an opportunity to go in that is just beneficial to him and the team."

Scott thinks that freshman wide receiver Deon Cain will be able to help the team once he gets some game experience under his belt.

"I think the fact that we have kind of pared it down now, to the install for Wofford, has helped him," Swinney said. "We are kind of starting over with our install for this game and I think that's really helped him. I've seen this week that he is able to play a little bit faster because he knows what he's doing. That's the progress you want to see for a young guy. Nothing like game experience and getting out and doing it. Hopefully next week he will continue to make progress and we will goood enough about him to get a chance to get out there and play a little bit."
