Sammy Watkins impressive in return to practice

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson playmaker Sammy Watkins passed his physical and worked out on Monday at St. John Fisher College at Buffalo Bill's training camp.

Watkins did not address the media but his head coach was impressed with what he saw from Watkins.

"I was impressed," Rex Ryan said via the Buffalo News. "I mean, he looks like he's in good shape. Sometimes, that's the first thing you worry about (with) the guy, what kind of shape he's in because he really hasn't been doing football-specific (activity).

Ryan knows that he doesn't want to overwork the talented player before the season starts.

"I've got to get on (receivers coach) Sanjay (Lal) and make sure that he's not overdoing him," Ryan said. "Because, sometimes, when you have Sammy, you want to put him out there, but you want to be smart."

Watkins had 44 receptions for 827 yards and nine touchdowns last season. For his career, he has 125 catches for 2,029 yards and fifteen scores.
