According to the Herald Online:

Rod Byers said he plans to make an impact when he reports for his freshman year of football at Clemson in August.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive lineman is not leaving town with unfinished business. Several weeks ago he took three Dutchman Creek Middle players to lunch. His goal was to make an impact on them with hopes it will spread when they get to Northwestern when school starts back.

"I did it because all my life, people were always there for me to help and I wanted to give back,'' Byers said. "Kids these days need a positive role model and I've had plenty of them in my life. There's so much going on outside of school and sports. I wanted to impress on the guys that if they stay straight and work hard, they can play college football some day just like me."
