Rockets extend qualifying offer to McDaniels

by - Assoc. Editor -

The Houston Rockets extended offers to former Clemson standout K.J. McDaniels and veteran guard Patrick Beverly on Tuesday afternoon according to multiple reports.

McDaniels reportedly received a 1.045 million qualifying offer from the Rockets. The Rockets will now have the ability to match any offer sheet on the open market on these two restricted free agents.

The high-flying wing player can possibly get up to the mid-level exception which is worth $5,464,000 per year.

One interesting Rockets' team salary note - veteran center Dwight Howard will make a $23,282,457 salary and franchise guard James Harden will earn a $16,784,032 salary for the 2016-2017 season.

McDaniels finished the regular season averaging 7.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. He played in only 10 out of 29 games with the Rockets (including the postseason) and logged 33 total minutes (1.13 minutes per game) since the trade from Philadelphia.

He was a first-team All-ACC selection and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013-14 while at Clemson. He led the Tigers in points (614), rebounds (255), blocks (100), steals (41) and three-pointers (42) - the only player in the country to lead his team in all five categories.
