Report: Patriots tried to trade for DeAndre Hopkins

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson standout DeAndre Hopkins has been a mainstay and the offensive focal point for the Houston Texans the last few years. However, the New England Patriots were looking for some offensive firepower during the middle of the regular season as they tried to trade All-Pro linebacker Jamie Collins for Hopkins according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

The Texans did not even contemplate the idea to switch star players according to the report.

Hopkins had 78 receptions for 954 yards and four touchdowns in 2016. For his NFL career, he has 317 catches for 4,487 yards and 23 scores.

The Patriots ended up trading Collins to the Cleveland Browns for a third round pick as he signed a 4-year, $50-million extension with his new team.
