Ramsey Qualifies for US Amateur Match Play

Clemson, SC—Ashlan Ramsey shot a second round 73 and qualified for the 64-player match play championship of the US Women’s Amateur on Tuesday. The Clemson freshman had a 76 in the opening round and her 36-hole score of 149 in stroke play qualified her for the next stage.

Match play will begin on Wednesday at the par 71 Country Club of Charleston Course in Charleston, SC.

Ramsey had a 35 on the front nine, including two birdies. She had a birdie on the par five fifth hole that is 501 yards in length, and had a birdie on the par four eighth hole that is 401 yards in length. In the second round she had 12 pars, two birdies and four bogeys. Her score of 149 for the two rounds tied for 54th in the field of 156 golfers.

Two other Lady Tigers played well on Tuesday, but failed to advance to match play. McKenzie Talbert had a 74 on Tuesday, an improvement of five shots over her first round. She finished at 153 for the two rounds, good enough for 87th place. But, she was just three shots out of qualifying for a playoff.

Sloan Shanahan also had a 74 on Tuesday, an improvement of seven shots over the first round. Her 155 total finished 109th.
