That didn't mean the Cavaliers weren't ecstatic about winning it. Dorman downed Spring Valley 70-59.5 to capture the title at Spring Valley High School. Spartanburg finished sixth with 34 points. , Tony Davis, Carrington Fernandors and Braxton Drummond combined for a time of 42.14 in the relay event. Drummond took the long jump with a leap of 23 feet. “We were seeded No. 1 (in the 4x100 relay),” Dorman coach Jeff Buys said. “It was an event where anything could go wrong and always gets your heart rate up high. I felt like they were the best coming in and deserved to win it. It was a great start for the team today.” Peake, a Clemson football signee, said the team “thrived” on the relay. “It gets us all ready for all the other races,” he said. Peake also finished second and third, respectively, in the 200- and 100-meter dashes. Drummond was pleased to get his team early points by winning his event Friday night. “I really wanted it to push us into Saturday,” he said. “I felt like if I win, it would help us out.”
The Dorman boys were all business on the podium when accepting their trophy on Saturday after winning the 4A state track and field championship.
