Clemson, S.C.—Clemson tight end Jordan Leggett has been named one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award. The honor is presented each year to the top tight end in college football. Leggett was one of three finalists last year.

So far this year, Leggett has 28 receptions for 480 yards and four touchdowns. He has a 17.1 yards per catch figure, on pace to be the best in school history for a tight end. During the 2016 season he has become Clemson’s career leader among tight ends in terms of receptions, reception yards and touchdowns. He has 94 receptions for 1342 yards and 15 touchdowns. The reception and reception yardage records had stood since 1971.

Leggett scored the winning touchdowns for the Tigers in important victories over ranked teams this year. First, in a 42-36 win over Louisville, he caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson with just 3:14 remaining. Then at Florida State, his 34-yard scoring pass from Watson with 2:06 left proved to be the game winner in a 37-34 win.

Leggett had 122 receiving yards on five receptions in the win at Florida State. The reception yardage total was the most for a Clemson tight end in history. It was his second 100-yard receiving game against the Seminoles. The native of Navarre, Florida has two of the five 100-yard receiving games for a Clemson tight end in history.
