Jets doing "extensive work" on Deshaun Watson

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson star Deshaun Watson is preparing for the upcoming 2017 NFL Scouting Combine that begins on February 28 through March 6. Watson will have the opportunity to solidfy a first round grade with a strong performance as scouts evaluate him throwing the football and as they get to know him during a myriad of interviews.

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report is reporting that the Jets are doing "extensive work" on evaluating Deshaun Watson for the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft. The Jets have the #6 overall pick in the first round, #39 overall pick in the second round, #39 overall pick in the third round, and have former quarterback draft picks Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg still on the roster alongside veterans Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith. That's a pretty full cupboard of quarterbacks but many within the organization feel that they still do not have a franchise quarterback.

Other quarterback prospects mentioned in various projections as potential first round draft picks include Mitch Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes, and DeShone Kizer.

In 2016, Watson completed 388 passes out of 579 attempts for 4593 yards and 41 passing touchdowns with 17 interceptions for an adjusted QBR of 84.9.
